ADOPTION PROCEDURE

Welcome to our Placement and Rehabilitation Center!

Thank you for wanting to participate in our adoption program.

The cats we serve need you. Your cooperation in providing us with the information on our pre-adoption consultation form and your patient understanding of our entire adoption process is appreciated. The consultation process is designed with the cat's best interest in mind as well as assisting you in finding a companion most compatible with your lifestyle. We hope to stimulate thought and discussion regarding a lifetime commitment to the cat(s) you choose.

MEOW Inc. accepts only unowned cats, primarily colony cats, into our placement program.
These cats know what it is like to be abandoned, neglected, starved and often abused.........all at the hands of human beings. Our volunteers have invested significant amounts of emotional, physical and financial energy into these cats in an attempt to let them know that some humans can be kind. It is our absolute and utmost priority to place our cats into homes that are capable of sustaining a lifelong bond of companionship; one that will withstand changing lifestyles and adversities.

MEOW Inc. reserves the right to refuse any adoption it deems unsuitable. Since this transaction is an adoption and not a purchase, MEOW Inc. can reclaim the cat at any time if the adopter is not truthful with information supplied on any of our forms or if the adopter fails to provide for the cat as specified.

MEOW Inc. requires a minimum of 48 hours waiting period before finalizing the adoption and relinquishing the cat to the new home. This allows MEOW Inc. the time necessary to check an adopter's references as well as giving the adopter time to reflect on the significance of this commitment. This waiting period can be waived at the discretion of the adoption counselor. This waiver is more likely to be granted if the adopter has adopted from MEOW in the past or if the adopter is personally known by an active MEOW member.

We also do not adopt kittens into single cat homes. Cats, although aloof, do better with company consisting of their own kind. So if you do not already have a cat at home, we ask that you adopt 2 kittens and let the fun begin!

In order to be eligible to adopt a MEOW cat you must:

~ be at least 18 years of age
~ have current identification showing your current address
~ agree the cat will not be used as a gift to another person
~ provide 2 references and allow MEOW the time necessary to contact
   these references.
~ if a renter, have your landlord's consent in writing
~ present a written statement outlining your plans for your cat should you move,    should allergies develop or become unable to care for your cat for any other    reason.
~ be willing and able to spend the time and money necessary to provide proper care    for the cat.
~ agree the cat will not be declawed.

There is no fee for adopting a MEOW cat. MEOW Inc. believes a monetary value cannot be ethically assigned to a living creature. However a donation to our adoption program helps us defray veterinary care costs as well as enabling us to more readily help the next cat. It also can be an indication of an adopter's knowledgeable willingness to provide necessary veterinary care.

Thank you again for supporting MEOW!
